What is Segment?
An organizational characteristic used for segment reporting under IFRS 8 and US GAAP, usually derived from the profit center.
Segments are assigned in the profit center master data and populated in postings through derivation and document splitting. They enable segment-level balance sheets. Incorrect derivation surfaces only in reporting, so tests should validate it explicitly.
