Week 8 of 8

Staying current after go-live

Hypercare should end when measurable criteria are met: no open severity 1, a falling severity 2 backlog, the first month-end close and payment run complete. Every confirmed hypercare defect becomes a regression test.

Then the vendor calendar takes over. Sage Intacct gives preview customers about three weeks before each quarterly release. IFS ships two releases a year plus monthly service updates. Odoo releases a new major version every year and SaaS versions every two to three months. A manual regression suite that takes four weeks cannot keep up with that.

This week: size regression for the cadence, then automate the critical path

  1. Agree hypercare exit criteria with the sponsor, including at least one month-end close.
  2. For each vendor release, run the same routine: read the release notes, run the vendor’s impact tooling, test in the preview or sandbox, sign off, then watch production for a week.
  3. Time your last regression cycle. If it is longer than the vendor’s preview window, automation is no longer optional.
  4. Automate the top 20 end-to-end processes first, starting where change is frequent and failure is expensive.
  5. Measure three things per release: critical process coverage, regression cycle time and defects that escaped to production.

Number of the week

~3 weeks

is how early Sage Intacct preview environments open before each quarterly release. That is the whole regression window.
