The NetSuite Release Testing Playbook

Week 8 of 8

Sign-off and keeping up

An upgrade decision is short when the evidence is ready: high-risk workflows passed with real roles, integrations reconnected and tested, scheduled processes run by hand, and every failure either fixed, raised with Support or accepted in writing. If the evidence is not there, you can still move the date through Customer-Scheduled Maintenance.

Then do it again in six months, possibly with monthly minor releases in between. NetSuite teams are small, so the suite has to get cheaper to run each time.

This week: decide on evidence, then make the next cycle cheaper

  1. Run scheduled and map/reduce scripts by hand in Release Preview; they do not run on their own there. After the sandbox upgrade, check that they run automatically.
  2. Hold the go/no-go on the summary: high-risk failures, untested scheduled processes and open setup items. Any high-risk failure means fix, raise a case or reschedule.
  3. After the upgrade, smoke test production with real roles and compare roles again with Show Role Differences.
  4. Automate the stable, high-volume workflows first. Measure cycle time and escaped defects every release.
