RISE with SAP Statistics (2026): Adoption, Revenue, SLAs, Costs and Risk
RISE with SAP private edition is now the most common S/4HANA subscription among ASUG members, at 42% of 194 surveyed in 2026.
Compiled by Matt Angerer · 42 sources · 17 min read

RISE with SAP is now how most large SAP customers buy S/4HANA. It is also where the hardest questions about service levels, renewal pricing and testing responsibility come up. This page collects the most recent sourced numbers on RISE adoption, SAP's cloud ERP revenue, contract terms, service levels, delivery risk and AI. Each number is labeled with its year, its population and a link to the source.

RISE with SAP adoption: how many customers have signed
SAP has not published a recent total RISE customer count that we could verify. The most recent primary figure we found is from mid-2024. User group surveys from 2024 to 2026 fill in the picture.
- In June 2024, SAP said 6,000 customers had selected RISE with SAP since it launched in 2021 (SAP News Center, June 2024).
- In May 2026, SAP said "thousands" of enterprise customers run RISE with SAP on Microsoft Azure, and that it would more than double the number of customers admitted to its joint SAP–Microsoft onboarding program in 2026. This is vendor data and SAP gave no exact count (SAP News Center, May 2026).
- In ASUG's 2026 S/4HANA research (194 members), RISE with SAP private edition was the most common subscription at 42%. The public edition stood at 9%, and another 9% use GROW with SAP (diginomica, October 2026).
- In ASUG's 2024 S/4HANA research (208 members), 17% had RISE private edition in place and 59% planned to use it (ASUG, 2024). The 2024 and 2026 questions may not be worded the same way, so read the change from 17% to 42% as a direction, not an exact growth rate.
- In DACH, 48% of companies in DSAG's 2025 Investment Report already used or planned to use RISE with SAP, up from 16% in 2024. The share who did not know the offering fell from 8% to 4% (DSAG via AP-Verlag, March 2025). One partner's write-up of the same 243-company survey gives the figure as 45% (IBsolution, March 2025). We show both because we could not confirm which is correct.

Awareness used to be the problem (historical). In 2021, nine months after launch, 30% of UK and Ireland SAP customers had never heard of RISE and 11% planned to use it (UKISUG via The Register, November 2021). By 2022, 38% of ASUG respondents were familiar with RISE, up from 23% in 2021 (CIO.com, 2022).
SAP's own numbers: Cloud ERP Suite revenue as the RISE proxy
SAP defines Cloud ERP Suite as the SaaS and PaaS products tightly integrated with its core ERP, and says they are included in key commercial packages such as RISE with SAP (SAP Q1 2025 Quarterly Statement). The line also covers BTP, spend management, supply chain, core HCM and other products. It shows the direction of RISE, not its exact size.
- Cloud ERP Suite revenue reached €18.12 billion in 2025, up 28%, or 32% at constant currencies (SAP, January 2026). In 2024 it was €14.17 billion (SAP Q4 2025 statement, SEC filing).
- In Q2 2026, Cloud ERP Suite revenue was €5.53 billion, up 25%, or 27% at constant currencies. Total cloud revenue was €6.28 billion (SAP Q2 2026 Quarterly Statement, July 2026).
- Cloud ERP Suite made up 86% of SAP's cloud revenue in 2025 (SAP Q4 2025 earnings call via Yahoo Finance) and 88% in Q2 2026 (SAP Q2 2026 earnings call via Yahoo Finance).
- Current cloud backlog, the contracted cloud revenue SAP expects to recognize in the next 12 months, stood at €22.9 billion at the end of June 2026. That is up 27%, or 26% at constant currencies (SAP Investor Relations, July 2026).
- Total cloud backlog reached €77.29 billion at the end of 2025, up 22%, or 30% at constant currencies (SAP, January 2026).
- Software support revenue, which is mostly maintenance on on-premise licenses, fell 8% year on year to €2.44 billion in Q2 2026 (SAP, July 2026).

Customer sentiment has not kept pace with revenue. SAP reported that its Net Promoter Score fell 3 points in 2025, to 9. SAP attributed the drop to on-premise customers who had not yet moved to the cloud and said cloud customers' scores held steady (Constellation Research, January 2026).
Where RISE is landing: regional differences
Private cloud S/4HANA, which is the deployment model RISE sells, varies a lot by region. The joint survey of ASUG, DSAG, UKISUG and JSUG members, run in July and August 2025, makes the gap clear (E3 Magazine, December 2025). The published results do not give the number of respondents in each group.

- Running S/4HANA on-premise is still the most common choice among DSAG members, at 55%. The figures for the other groups are ASUG 28%, UKISUG 23% and JSUG 18% (heise, December 2025).
- 78% of DSAG members run hybrid on-premise and cloud landscapes. The figures elsewhere are ASUG 49%, UKISUG 56% and JSUG 55% (DSAG, December 2025).
- In DSAG's 2026 Investment Report (about 200 DACH companies), 42% plan high or medium investment in S/4HANA on-premise in 2026. 22% plan the same for the private cloud (RISE) variant and 6% for the public cloud (GROW) variant (DSAG, February 2026).
Share of DACH companies planning high or medium 2026 investment, by S/4HANA deployment. Source: DSAG Investment Report 2026, February 2026
Conflicting numbers to note: DSAG's 2025 report found 68% planning investment in S/4HANA private or public cloud (IBsolution, March 2025). The 2026 figure is 28%. The two samples were recruited differently. In 2025, SAP sent out the questionnaire and the panel included more large companies and non-members (DSAG, March 2025). In 2026, DSAG ran the survey itself (Constellation Research, 2026). Treat the drop as partly a change in who was asked.
The ECC deadline and the RISE pipeline
RISE is SAP's main route off ECC. Gartner tracks about 35,000 ECC customers, and its data shows steady but slow progress.

- RISE's share of S/4HANA sales by number of customers fell from 71% in calendar Q3 2023 to 41% in Q2 2024, according to Gartner. Part of the reason was that sales were split with GROW with SAP (The Register, September 2024).
- Gartner estimates that by 2030 more than 40% of current ECC 6 customers will still use ECC 6 for key business areas (The Register, October 2025).
- Mainstream ECC maintenance ends after 2027. Extended support runs to the end of 2030 for a 2% premium (The Register, November 2025). SAP ERP, private edition, announced in January 2025, extends ECC support to 2033 for customers who sign the subscription before 2028 (The Register, March 2025).
- Among DACH companies, 49% plan to extend ECC maintenance but finish moving to S/4HANA by 2030, and 37% plan to migrate by 2027 (DSAG Investment Report 2026 via Constellation Research).

User group data looks more advanced than Gartner's, because ASUG members tend to be further along. ASUG's share of members who are live on S/4HANA or moving to it went from 45% in 2024 (208 members) to 56% in 2025 (168 members) to 68% in 2026 (194 members).

A separate survey from Precisely and ASUG found 59% of companies fully or partly live on S/4HANA, 13 points more than in 2024 (Precisely, vendor-sponsored, November 2025). That survey asks about being live, not about being live or in progress, which explains why its number is lower than ASUG's 68%.
Cost, pricing and renewal terms
- Gartner reports that customers on SAP's private cloud offering have seen renewal proposals rise 10% or more when the original contract had no renewal price cap (The Register, October 2025).
- SAP has raised annual support prices for ECC 6 and S/4HANA every year since 2021, including a 5% rise in 2025. Gartner expects on-premise customers to keep facing yearly increases (Gartner via The Register, October 2025).
- Budget constraints are the top challenge for SAP customers. They were cited by 61% of 663 ASUG members surveyed in December 2025, 7 points more than the previous year, and ASUG links the increase to the migrations themselves (CIO.com, May 2026; ASUG, March 2026).
- In DACH, 43% of companies are raising SAP budgets in 2026, down from 46% in 2024. The share cutting SAP budgets rose from 19% to 28% (DSAG, February 2026).
- Fewer projects are going over budget. In ASUG's 2025 research (168 members), 31% reported S/4HANA costs above expectations, 18 points fewer than in 2024. 34% said costs matched expectations (ASUG/BearingPoint, 2025).
Gartner's 2023 warning about RISE costs (historical) still describes the cost structure. With RISE, total cost of ownership becomes a total cost of operation, and cost items the customer used to control move to SAP (The Register, September 2023).
Service levels and day-to-day operations
This is where RISE differs most from a traditional managed service contract, and where test managers feel it most.
- RISE with SAP's standard uptime SLA is 99.7%. Gartner puts the industry standard at 99.9% (The Register, May 2025).
- At 99.7%, Gartner calculates allowed downtime of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 24 seconds per month (Computer Weekly, May 2025).
- Gartner found that reaching 99.9% takes a 30% to 50% premium on the relevant software subscription (The Register, May 2025).
- RISE commits to incident response times but, unlike other managed service contracts, not to a time for resolving service requests. Gartner clients report that routine tasks, such as enabling a new interface to a satellite system, can take more than a month because several SAP teams are involved (The Register, May 2025).
- Gartner also notes that the split of responsibilities in RISE cannot be negotiated or adjusted to each customer's needs, unlike competing managed service providers (Computer Weekly, May 2025).
The operating models customers actually use are mixed. Among 194 ASUG members in 2026, private cloud was the most common S/4HANA environment at 37%, followed by managed private cloud at 33%. Hybrid environments fell to 13% from 18% in 2025 (diginomica, October 2026).
Timelines, delivery risk and partners
- ASUG members reported that the move to S/4HANA took an average of one and a half years (ASUG/BearingPoint, 2025).
- In the same 2025 research, only 13% had been live on S/4HANA for more than five years. The most common risk cited was too many customizations complicating the move, and 43% named change management as a project risk (Orpington Tech summary of ASUG research, 2026; ASUG, 2025).
- In 2026, 62% of ASUG members on S/4HANA had been live for less than three years (diginomica, October 2026).
- Business process change was the biggest barrier to migration for 49% of users in the Precisely and ASUG survey (The Register, November 2025).
- Partners are taking a larger share of delivery. In Q4 2025, SAP's indirect (partner-led) cloud revenue grew more than 1.5 times as fast as its direct cloud revenue (SAP Q4 2025 results presentation, January 2026).
Testing, data and integration
We found no independent survey that measures testing effort on RISE projects specifically. These are the closest sourced indicators of where test scope and risk sit.
Share of UK and Ireland SAP organizations. Source: Syniti/UKISUG data migration research (vendor co-sponsored), July 2025
- 58% of organizations use automation for SAP migrations and transformation projects, up from 43% in the 2023 report (Precisely/ASUG, vendor-sponsored, 2024).
- Integration is the main test surface. The most common systems integrated with S/4HANA among ASUG members are SAP BTP (71%), Concur (54%) and SAP Analytics Cloud (48%) (diginomica, October 2026).
- 44% of ASUG members named integration between SAP and non-SAP systems as a focus, up from 36% in 2024. Master data maintenance and governance was the top challenge, at 48% (ASUG 2025 Pulse, 2025).
AI and the outlook for RISE
SAP now sells RISE with AI included, while customers are still early in adopting it.
- SAP Business AI was included in two-thirds of SAP's Q4 2025 cloud order entry (Constellation Research, January 2026).
- Only 10% of organizations had rolled out AI at enterprise scale in ASUG's February 2026 AI research, run with Microsoft and Intel (CIO.com, May 2026).
- After go-live, 36% of ASUG members want support applying SAP Business AI and Joule within S/4HANA (diginomica, October 2026).
- Only 33% of respondents to the joint user group survey were very familiar or familiar with SAP's new Business Suite (DSAG, December 2025).
- SAP expects 2026 cloud revenue of €25.8 billion to €26.2 billion, growth of 23% to 25% at constant currencies (Yahoo Finance, July 2026; SAP Investor Relations).

Few customers expect RISE itself to speed up their move. Only 10% of DSAG members think the RISE and GROW journeys will fundamentally accelerate their move to the cloud.

What this means for your sign-off
- Write the responsibility split into your test strategy. RISE commits to incident response times but not to resolution times for service requests, and Gartner clients report waits of more than a month for tasks such as enabling an interface. Put SAP lead times on your critical path for test environments, connectivity and transports. Our guide to what RISE includes and why testing is still your job covers who owns what.
- Treat 99.7% as a design input, not a guarantee of uptime. That allows about 2 hours 10 minutes of downtime a month. Test failover, batch restart and integration retry behavior against that figure, and record whether the business accepted the standard SLA or paid the 30% to 50% premium for 99.9%.
- Plan regression for many years of upgrades, not one go-live. 62% of ASUG members on S/4HANA have been live for less than three years, so most teams have not yet been through several upgrade cycles on RISE. Build a regression suite you can keep running. See S/4HANA upgrade cadence, clean core and regression strategy.
- Budget for test data from the start. 79% of UK and Ireland organizations say data management is a challenge in the ECC to S/4HANA move, and only 28% feel they have the skills to use their data well. Our test data guide for S/4HANA covers copies, masking and synthetic data.
- Check your plan against the real deadlines. 49% of DACH companies plan to pay for extended ECC maintenance and finish by 2030, and the 2033 option requires a subscription signed before 2028. A late RISE contract shortens the time left for testing. See what 2027, 2030 and 2033 really mean.
- Test AI features with the same rigor as other functionality. Two-thirds of SAP's Q4 2025 cloud orders included Business AI, but only 10% of organizations have AI at enterprise scale. Expect AI features in scope before your team has a way to validate them.
Frequently asked questions
How many companies use RISE with SAP?
The latest primary figure we could verify is from June 2024, when SAP said 6,000 customers had selected RISE with SAP (SAP News Center). In 2026, 42% of 194 ASUG members surveyed used RISE private edition (diginomica).
What uptime SLA does RISE with SAP include?
The standard SLA is 99.7%, compared with the 99.9% industry standard, according to Gartner (The Register, 2025). That allows 2 hours, 10 minutes and 24 seconds of downtime per month (Computer Weekly). Gartner found that 99.9% costs a 30% to 50% premium on the relevant software (The Register).
How fast is RISE with SAP revenue growing?
SAP does not report RISE revenue separately. Its Cloud ERP Suite line, which includes RISE, grew 32% at constant currencies to €18.12 billion in 2025 (SAP). It grew another 27% at constant currencies to €5.53 billion in Q2 2026 (SAP).
Does RISE with SAP extend ECC support beyond 2030?
Standard ECC mainstream maintenance ends after 2027, and extended support runs to the end of 2030 for a 2% premium (The Register). SAP ERP, private edition extends ECC support to 2033 for customers who subscribe before 2028 (The Register).
Do RISE with SAP renewals cost more?
They can. Gartner reports increases of 10% or more on private cloud renewal proposals when the original contract had no renewal price cap (The Register, 2025).
How long does an S/4HANA move take?
ASUG members reported an average of one and a half years (ASUG/BearingPoint, 2025). Large, heavily customized programs often take longer.
