ERP basics: questions to ask about any change

  • Which end-to-end process does this change belong to: order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, plan-to-produce or record-to-report?
  • What documents does the affected step create, and which document does it reference?
  • What downstream documents and postings follow from it (delivery, goods issue, billing, journal entry)?
  • Which master data does it use, and could a master data change affect other processes?
  • Who can judge the business result: sales, purchasing, plant, or finance?
  • Record system, client, org units, document numbers, expected and actual values, tester and date.
  • Check one unchanged area (another plant or company code) to show nothing else moved.
  • Never record a step as passed unless you saw the result yourself.
