Regression Testing for SAP Upgrades and Releases

Keep this: job aid

Upgrade regression card

  • Know your cadence: on-premise/Private Edition release every two years, feature packs early; Public Edition upgrades in February and August.
  • Put SAP dates, your release trains and business peaks on one calendar.
  • Read release information by area; filter to your processes, apps, roles, extensions, interfaces, reports.
  • Track deprecations as owned tasks with successors and dates.
  • Score scenarios: criticality, financial impact, usage, change impact, failure history, complexity.
  • Core pack every release; targeted scope plus neighbors and role checks per change.
  • Entry: change applied, smoke passed, data and roles ready, plan approved, known issues listed.
  • Exit: core pack done, no open critical/high, workarounds accepted, reports reconciled, evidence stored.
  • Report core results separately; state residual risk in business terms; recommend against exit criteria.
  • After production: smoke check, watch risk areas, add escaped defects to the pack.
